Regulatory burdens hurt families and businesses.. The costs now associated with these burdens is $1.86 TRILLION per year which is 85% of U.S. Corporate profits and roughly $15,000 a year per household – more than every other family expense with the exception of your mortgage or housing.
Business owners spend two to three hours daily to comply with federal regulations. Studies have shown that regulatory costs amount to $7,755 per employee for large businesses and $10,585 per employee for small businesses. When nearly 70% of all new jobs are generated by small businesses — the case can be made that the federal regulatory burden has stopped job creation and stymied the economy.
The costs of complying with regulations are passed on to the consumer, raising prices on:
  • the food we eat
  • the clothes we wear
  • the energy prices we pay for gas in our car or air conditioning for our home.
  • And that’s not all…
These costs are viewed as “the hidden tax,” and in this case, “taxation without representation” is applicable when it comes to federal regulators.
The Administrative Procedure Act (APA), which makes rules and sets regulations, has not been modernized since its passage in 1946. Prior to the passage of the APA, President Roosevelt stated that the practice of creating administrative agencies with the authority to perform both legislative and judicial work “threatens to develop a fourth branch of government for which there is no sanction in the Constitution.” Today, we essentially have that fourth branch of government—right here in Washington, D.C.
Our government is enormous, broke—and broken—due in large measure to federal regulators gone wild. There is no accountability. There are questionable motives gone unquestioned. There is tyranny.
Regulation Watch, Inc. has been formed to shed light on the real and damaging effects of government overreach on the federal and state levels. We are amplifying this effort with a national public awareness campaign. Our team has a proven track record of bringing clarity to complex issues by combining common sense public policy and efficient operational practices.
